The New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) has elected Jenny Rao, Emma Willard School’s 17th head, as president of the board of trustees. Founded in 1947, the Association is made up of over 200 independent schools in New York State and is affiliated with both the National.

The Emma Willard School Theatre Department opened this year’s season with an adaptation of the Greek tragedy Antigone by Sophocles. The adaptation, set in post-World War II Greece, follows Antigone as she struggles with the decision of whether to follow her heart—be “herself”—or bow to pressure.
