For me, home is in a few places. Before COVID-19, I lived in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn but due to all the changes that occurred this past year, I relocated to Spencertown, upstate New York. I don’t have any siblings—just two cats, Brick and Maggie—who I love and miss very much. My parents have helped me throughout this whole incredible experience and have been my biggest supporters. I have many cousins who I love very very much, and an amazing grandmother I was able to spend some time with this past year.

I only enrolled in Emma in June before school started, so the decision was quick, and the transition was even quicker. Though it was hard being online at first, it was nice to know all my teachers were there for me through that rough time. As soon as I joined Emma, I witnessed the immense kindness of the students, and now I feel confident in saying that I have found a new home to add to my list. The workload felt almost impossible at first, but I learned to adapt, and I have never learned more.

I am very passionate about historical clothing, which I got most intensely into during quarantine, and my love has only increased since then. I first was exposed to the details of late 18th century to early 19th century clothing (my favorite time period for dress) in an amazing series called Bloody Jack. I have learned a lot about how different major historical events affected fashion trends, such as the French Revolution and World War II. I would like to continue learning about historical clothing, but now I want to expand into different areas, not just western countries.

I would love to try pottery! I have been taking ceramics this year and I have really been enjoying it. I would like to find a way to continue this art even when I am not in class, so I may enroll in a course outside of school. I recommend this class to anyone, even if you believe yourself to be not very good at visual arts, like myself.

It’s very hard to pick my favorite tradition at Emma, but I would have to say that May Day is up there. As a ninth grader, I participated in the dance and I hope to be in the court my senior year at Emma. Spring is also my favorite season (it's not too hot but still green and beautiful), so the celebration of this time truly speaks to me.
